Importance of Membership
The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) is your organization for the promotion and advancement of
Respiratory Care. In order to accomplish this we must pool all our resources. The AARC works closely at the national
level with numerous healthcare and political organizations to see that your concerns and needs are met.
The Connecticut Society for Respiratory Care (CTSRC) provides the same services at the state and local
levels. Both these organizations need the support and input from its members. We are only as strong as our
weakest link, but membership is running at about 33% of eligible members. There is strength in numbers, and the
loudest voices will be heard. In March 2005, the CTSRC sent a Political Advocacy Contact Team (PACT) to represent
the respiratory therapists in our state. They met with legislators to encourage their support on legislation regarding
reimbursement for home health care and plans to address the shortage of respiratory therapists. Also, we have hired
a lobbyist in order to monitor and support legislation that effects us as respiratory therapists practicing in the
state.
