The Robert O’Neil Award

The Robert O’Neil Award for Outstanding Vendor will be presented at the 2024 CTSRC Symposium.

Robert O’Neil worked for various medical supply companies. He was instrumental in creating universal standards for equipment design and safety standards for respiratory therapy equipment. He served on the International Standard Committee for Anesthesia and Respiratory Equipment. He then opened his own home care company, and he continued to advocated for patient safety. Prior to discharge, he had respiratory therapists instruct patients on the  equipment they would be using in their home. This was revolutionary in the late 1960s.

The recipient of this award should be a vendor who possesses the following qualities:

  1. Outstanding in their service to the profession of Respiratory Care
  2. Demonstrates their professionalism:
    • Membership Preferred (i.e.; AARC, CTSRC, CPS, etc.)
    • Years in profession
    • Involvement in professional organizations
    • Publications
